Belgium and France Trip (WW1 Battlefield Tour)

Mr Beddows, Ahtasham Akhtar and Kevin Chan had the unique opportunity to visit the WW1 battlefields of Belgium and France as part of the centenary commemoration years.

They visited places such as the Somme and Flanders on a war literature trip where they visited the sites of WW1 and analysed and studied famous novels and poems of that era. For example, they visited the place where Wilfred Owen served and found inspiration for ‘Exposure’ which appears on their English Literature GCSE.

At the Menin Gate they attended the Last Post ceremony and Ahtasham laid a wreath on behalf of MCA and during their many cemetery visits they managed to find a soldier who was born and lived on Queens Road, Harpurhey right where the school is! From an emotional and inspiring trip the students came closer to their English Literature texts and through the interactivity of the trip developed a love for creative writing. A once in a lifetime opportunity to remember those who have died for us all.
