TA Learning Community

The TA learning community brought together colleagues from the EAL and SEND teams and from subject areas.

 

The Education Endownment Fund report 'Making Best Use of TAs in the Classroom' was used as a starting point to put together the following series of training sessions:

Content covered this year:

 

  • Differentiation - Mary McLaren

  • Use of data to inform progress - Kate Coey

  • Effective questioning - Lucy Hodson

  • Specialist training on autism - Northridge School

  • Share and steal session - Mary McLaren

  • Life without levels - Sue Watmough

Qualitative comments from the community:

  • How to use targetted questioning techniques to support progress with my groups.

  • Allowed me to challenge students at their level of ability.

  • The training has improved my relationships with students.

  • I began to have daily conversations with subject teachers so I could provide differentiated resources for students I look after.

  • I have learnt how to break down a task into smaller chunks for students.


 

Quantitative comments from the community survey:

 

Differentiation and Effective Questioning were found to be useful or very useful by all who completed the survey.
Effective Questioning was rated the highest.
