WHY WORK AT MCA?

Staff well-being and development is a priority for all staff evidenced in the way we do things differently at MCA.

This includes the following:

  • Every member of staff can take one 'flexi day' holiday per year.

  • Teaching staff have two, two-hour planning sessions per week to collaboratively plan with colleagues.

  • Teachers teach in both break out areas and flexible learning bases where they can learn from one another through team teaching, coaching and mentoring.

  • We have a half day on a Friday with an hour's training from 1 to 2pm with a variety of teaching and learning communities to participate in.

  • Excellent career progression routes through a talent management strategy for those who are ambitious keen to develop.

  • A staff well-being group who meet regularly to discuss work-load and work-life balance and organise wellbeing and social events.

STAFF CASE STUDIES

The following case studies are taken from our current staff working in both in teaching and associate staff teams.  They provide an insight into how we value and develop our staff whilst staying forming focused on school improvement and student outcomes.

NATALIE & GEORGE SHARE THEIR JOURNEY

Natalie and George started with us when we opened back in September 2010 - Natalie as a newly qualified teacher and George as a member of the site team.  George has since trained as a teacher taking advantage of our school-based teacher training programme (SCITT) and is now looking forward to developing as a leader through an action-research project.  Natalie is now area leader for Science and has some exciting plans for the year ahead.  Click here to find out how the academy has supported them in their development.

MATTHEW'S STORY

Matthew trained at University in the performing arts.  He tried various jobs including working at a call centre before deciding to train and work in education.  Click here to hear his story.

DARREN'S ROUTE TO BECOMING AN ACCOUNTANT

TEACHING OFFER

Mel came to us after completing seven years teaching at Newhall Green High School in Manchester.  In that time she has grown from an NQT to KS3 lead in Mfl.  She is now responsible for KS4 Mfl at MCA.  Mel has developed further at MCA through team-teaching in the learning base and working as a leader of a team.  She is looking forward to meeting the challenges of the new KS4 curriculum.  Click here to find out more.

RQT OFFER

Harriet joined us after relocating from London to Manchester following a successful NQT year.  As an RQT she is looking forward to developing her teaching skills both in the classroom and as a subject coach

NQT PROGRAMME

At MCA we have an extensive Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) programme that supports new staff in developing all aspects of being a new teacher.  The programme underpins our academy values ensuring NQT’s are Inspiring, Helpful, Heart, Straightforward and Trustworthy.

The programme includes:

  • teaching and learning mentor support

  • subject mentor support

  • behaviour for learning

  • developing the role of the progress leader

  • support at progress review evenings and communicating with parents

  • fortnightly training sessions

  • access to coaching programmes

  • opportunities to observe great staff

NQT provision at MCA has been praised by Ofsted with staff reporting that they found the opportunities provided helped them to develop as a teacher.  The programme ensures that the majority of NQTs end their first year in the profession as ‘good’ classroom practitioners, if not ‘outstanding’.
