Katie Thistleton Visit MCA

Katie Thistleton is one the most recognisable faces on the CBBC Channel and now a regular voice on Radio 1. She is also an author and is writing a book entitled 'Dear Katie' which invites children to write letters to her talking about personal issues and problems facing young people. The English department at MCA saw this as a fantastic and unique opportunity to invite Katie into the school to talk to the Year 7s about these kinds of issues that they might not talk about with their usual teachers or in some cases, even their parents. Katie talked through some key issues that have affected students in the UK including: body image, relationships and bullying. Our students relished the opportunity to open up about these topics as well as marvelling at a celebrity they see on the TV every day of the week! At the end of her visit Katie took all the letters our students had written so hopefully we might be seeing some of their pieces in her book or even have some future authors ourselves right here at MCA!
