CAREERS GUIDANCE AND FUTURE PATHWAYS AT MCA
We maintain a broad and balanced curriculum for all our students to ensure that they are able to make informed choices about future pathways. The curriculum embeds core subjects such as science and aims to guide young people on their choice of additional enabling subjects. The core subjects provide the essential scaffolding for gaining other knowledge and skills in the workplace and in education. The enabling subjects will equip a young person to move on to university, apprenticeships or further training - whatever the mix all routes will be rigorous and stretching.
A choice of enabling subjects in year 9 is available within three of curriculum areas – Design Technology, Health and Wellbeing, Creative Arts – where students are able to specialise in a particular aspect. All students will continue to study the core subjects of English, maths, science, modern foreign languages and PE and will be guided into appropriate exams and accreditation routes according to their aptitude and ability.
An integral part of the vision and mission of Manchester Communication Academy is that all students gain an effective programme of careers activities from year 7-11 to help them make informed decisions on progression routes and that they are fully prepared to sustain their destinations of choice. Our programme aims to fully meet all the 8 Gatsby benchmarks (see policy) and meet all statutory duties effectively.

PARTNERSHIPS
The pathways planning at MCA identifies the potential career and progression routes for students, into further and higher education, apprenticeships, work based training and employment. This is reinforced within the curriculum areas and is evidenced in the planning documents. Click on the logos to find out more about the companies.
Our planning takes account of the local labour market intelligence with regard to employment opportunities and our focus on STEAM subjects reflects the needs of the national and global economy, and the requirements of our sponsor BT.
